Two days program was conducted for Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) who have already taken MA training through Ipas Nepal from 1-2 February 2024. The two days event was conducted in close collaboration with Koshi Provincial Health Training Center (PHTC-Koshi) under the technical support from Ipas Nepal. 15 providers were engaged from 15 health post who had been trained in MA service from two districts. There were 10 providers from Udaypur district and five providers from Okhaldhunga. Most of the providers were trained one year back but three providers were trained more than 10 years back.
The providers were mainly updated on the medical abortion and went through the pre and post Knowledge, Attitude, Practice, and Implementation (KAPI). Service status on MA service and post abortion contraception data were also discussed. The data from the two districts revealed that 188 cases were provided from ten health facilities from Udaypur and 25 cases from five health facilities from Okhaldhunga. It was seen that the provision of condom and no method were minimal compared to other modern contraceptive methods.
The providers were provided overview of GBV, GBV identification and clinical examination, concepts on climate change, individual responsibility for disposing waste management and information regarding the updated Safe Motherhood and Reproductive Health Act 2018 was also discussed. The compelling case stories, based on real scenarios from providers, reflect the critical need for safe abortion services and evoked strong emotional responses. The director of Koshi-PHTC, Mr. Rohit Kumar Pandey was present for both the opening and closing ceremony.
