Nepal COVID-19 Response
During COVID-19 outbreak in 2020 and 2021, Ipas Nepal, expressing solidarity and support to federal, provincial and local governments, hospitals and health facilities, supported with various response materials such as:
- 1,848 Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) sets
- 31,240 hand sanitizers
- 812,464 masks
- 177,702 gloves
Support during Earthquake
When a massive earthquake struck Nepal on 25 April 2015 with an epicenter 77 km (48 miles) northwest of Kathmandu, eight million people were affected—including an estimated two million women and girls of reproductive age, including 126,000 pregnant women.
Out of 14 affected districts, Ipas Nepal supported eight districts (Lalitpur, Dhading, Kavre, Sindhuli, Nuwakot, Makwanpur, Sindhupalchowk, Gorkha) in collaboration with the Family Welfare Division, National Health Training Center and the eight District Health Offices. Our main support was to provide training on safe abortion service, as most of the health facilities were non-functioning due to lack of trained providers.
Training was conducted for 56 providers from the eight severely affected districts. In addition, training was provided for 13 providers from other districts where the need was identified. Direct supply of necessary equipment and medical abortion drugs was also provided, as was post-training follow-up for the providers. Ipas Nepal also hosted a television program providing information on safe abortion and supported partners such as One Heart in the provision of post abortion contraceptive services.
