Integrating climate change, gender and SRHR

Introduction:

While sexual and reproductive health services often remain overlooked in humanitarian relief and crisis situations, we know they are just as critical and time sensitive as food and emergency medicine. Realizing the urgent need to address climate change, Ipas Nepal initiated its work on the intersection of climate change, gender and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Our dedicated teams work tirelessly to ensure these SRHR services are readily available, leaving no one behind. As communities confront the urgent need to prepare for and respond to climate emergencies, Ipas Nepal is committed to creating holistic strategies that prioritize the needs of women and girls—the most impacted by these challenges.

  • Capacity strengthening: Capacity strengthening of local government, adolescents and women from vulnerable and marginalized communities on climate change, gender, social norms, gender-based violence and fundamental rights of women, SRHR including safe abortion.
  • Local Adaptation Plan of Action (LAPA): Formulation/ review of LAPA of climate vulnerable municipalities while integrating gender and SRHR. Support local government in implementation of developed LAPAs mainly focusing on SRHR, women empowerment, alternative livelihood, disaster management and climate adaptive actions.
  • Community engagement: Ipas Nepal orients, trains and mobilized community members and key stakeholders in integrating gender and SRHR in climate justice agenda. Community members organize various activities such as community sessions, formal and non-formal dialogues, etc. at local level.
