Strategic Nexus for SRHR Ecosystem in Nepal

Ipas Nepal prioritizes enhancing sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) services by placing a sustainable SRHR ecosystem at its core. A Sustainable SRHR Ecosystem is a dynamic environment in which local stakeholders and systems are accountable, committed, and responsive to the community’s sexual and reproductive health and rights needs.

The Strategic Nexus for SRHR Ecosystem in Nepal convened diverse stakeholders, including development partners, governmental bodies, and civil society organizations, on 21st June 2024. Jagadishwor Ghimire, Country Director of Ipas Nepal, shared the Strategic Plan 2023-2028 of Ipas Nepal, followed by a high-level panel discussion on the topic Addressing the Barriers to Reproductive Justice in Nepal to initiate discussion regarding the need to prioritize the SRHR program in the context of Nepal.

The distinguished expert panelists included Dr. Bibek Kumar Lal (Director, Family Welfare Division, Ministry of Health and Population), Dr. Archana Amatya (Executive Director, Nick Simons Institute), and Dr. Rajendra Bhadra (SRHR Expert) and Dr. Deepak Karki (Health Advisor, FCDO, British Embassy). The panelist discussed the existing situation of SRHR indicators and barriers to implementing SRHR programs, emphasized the need to prioritize and invest more in sexual and reproductive health and rights, and highlighted the importance of government-financed basic health services to sustain long-term SRHR advancements in Nepal.
