To enhance environmental health and elevate service quality at Dullu Hospital, Dailekh, Ipas Nepal, in collaboration with SOSEC Nepal and Dullu Hospital, supported the establishment of waste management facilities.
It involved developing and operationalizing an effective, environmentally sound waste management system within the hospital, ensuring the safe segregation, handling, treatment, and disposal of medical waste. A total of 300 community members were engaged.
Discussions were held with Dullu Hospital, and an assessment was conducted using a standard checklist. Decisions regarding the construction of handwashing stations and a water tank were made during the Health Facility Operation and Management Committee (HFOMC) meeting. This initiative strengthened the hospital’s waste management system, facilitating the management of medical waste, placenta disposal, and both organic and inorganic waste within the facility.
Furthermore, essential surgical and furniture items were procured to enhance access to Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) services, including safe abortion care and family planning, for community members. The materials supported under this initiative included open storage racks, blood pressure sets, instrument and bedside trolleys, a crash cart, nebulizer machine, perilight, portable torchlights, digital wall clocks, and color-coded dustbins to support proper waste segregation.
The handover is expected to improve water and hygiene conditions, thereby ensuring safer services delivered by Dullu Hospital and fostering more sustainable environments for both communities and healthcare facilities.
